Catherine is a senior at West High who started math competitions in 2017 with Math Kangaroo. Since then, she has had a passion for anything to do with numbers, with her favorite subject being combinatorics. Catherine has qualified for the Math Prize Olympiad twice, earning a silver medal in 2023! Outside of mathematics, she enjoys solving puzzles and going anywhere that's sunny.

Erin Chen is a junior at West High School that is passionate about math. She often tries to convince her friends to do math competitions with her. In her free time, she likes to hang out with her friends and take a long nap. She plays the violin as well as the oboe and also somehow finds the time to swim.

Awen Li is a freshman at West High School who has been competing in MathCounts and other competitions since 5th grade. She loves set theory and other interesting mathematical concepts. However, graphing is where she draws the line. In her free time, she enjoys writing, playing piano, and sharing her passion for math with her nonzero amount of friends.

Emma Lai is a sophomore at West High School and has been competing in math contests since 3rd grade. She loves sharing that passion with her friends; even if math club isn’t everyone’s thing 😅. At school, some of her friends credit her for explaining tough math problems to them. Beyond math, she enjoys journalism, painting, robotics, singing, and tennis. 

Helena Yang is a sophomore at West High School who has been competing for 7 years. She loves helping her friends figure out math problems and competing with friends. Other than math, she's also into flute, figure skating, and embroidery.

Jiwon Kim is currently a sophomore at Liberty High School and has been doing math competitions since 5th grade. She hates anything number theory but will gladly do anything else. She likes to read, bake, and hang out with friends!

Athena is a 2024 graduate of West High School who has been doing math competitions for 7 years so far. Outside of mathematics and dubiously teaching it, she enjoys biology, mildly sacrilegious religious iconography, drawing, and pretending to understand graphic design, not necessarily in that order.

Edward is a former West High student (class of 2026) who has spent a disproportionate fraction of his life doing math. He first joined the middle school math club in 2017, and has since participated in various math competitions and gone to several summer programs. Outside of math, he reads philosophy, goes on bike rides, and stargazes on the weekends.

Grace is a former Linn-Mar High student (class of 2027) whose favorite math is any math not geometry. When not figuring out problems, she carries strong opinions of her favorite fantasy novels and is eager to show you her goodreads recommendations. As an excellent kazoo player and piano accompanist for her kazoo, Grace also loves sharing music to whoever is unfortunate enough.

Richard Yang is a 2025 West High School graduate. Over the summer, he runs the Iowa City Math Circle, which holds weekly classes for math competitions, coding, and biology. He enjoys physics, music, and Tetris.
